Carbon Intelligence has supported Senior Plc, an international manufacturer of high technology components and systems to set ambitious emissions reductions targets aligned to 1.5C degrees.
Senior is the first company in the global Aerospace & Defence sector to have its targets independently verified and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The targets covering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Senior operations are consistent with what climate science states is needed to prevent the most damaging effects of climate change.
SBTi have approved the following targets:
- Senior Plc commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 30% by 2025 from a 2018 base year
- For Scope 3 GHG emissions, Senior Plc also commits that 80% of its suppliers* will have science-based targets by 2025
(*by spend covering purchased goods and services and capital goods)
Susie Chalk, Consultant at Carbon Intelligence who worked with the team at Senior plc, said:
“As the first company in the Aerospace & Defence sector to align a science-based target with 1.5C, Senior plc is in a position of leadership in the sector. The engineering & manufacturing firm has set ambitious carbon reduction targets through its suppliers as well as its own operations and the resulting actions will help its customers meet their own goals. We are confident that Senior plc will influence their not just their suppliers but also their peers and customers through this commitment.”
