The Zero Carbon Forum Appoints Carbon Intelligence

By Grace Melville
16th March 2021

We’re excited to announce that the Zero Carbon Forum has appointed Carbon Intelligence to help build an ambitious roadmap, taking action to eliminate carbon emissions across the hospitality sector.

Forum members include leading restaurants, pubs, breweries, and hotels, working together to rebuild a cleaner, sustainable, more efficient business world. By identifying and addressing emission hotspots, the forum will announce a sector-wide net zero commitment this autumn, ahead of the government’s 2050 ambition.

With it, they’ll publish a roadmap to get there as quickly as possible. Carbon Intelligence will support the forum to set a date, with action-based milestones to track progress along the way.

“The team brings very relevant experience, particularly in scope 3”

Forum CEO and founder Mark Chapman said of the partnership, “We’re very pleased to bring Carbon Intelligence on-board. Our members represent diverse players across business types, sizes, and stages of their journey. What we have in common is the same end goal, and Carbon Intelligence will help make sure we get there.” He noted Carbon Intelligence’s expertise, adding, “The team brings very relevant experience, particularly in scope 3, which comprises the majority of our sector’s emissions.”

Jonathan Sykes, Carbon Intelligence’s Executive Chairman noted “Collaboration is critical to driving transformation in sustainability, particularly in the supply chain. This forum has a really incredible level of drive and ambition. We look forward to jointly announcing hospitality’s position to the government later this year.”

While the industry roadmap will be announced this autumn, members are already working on a number of collaborative initiatives. UK Hospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls remarked, “We’ve already seen so many innovative projects across the sector.” Noting the tough year hospitality has had, she added “It’s crucial to the survival and success of our industry that we build back better. Cutting greenhouse gas emissions makes business sense, and generally means lower operating costs as well.”

Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) Emma McClarkin expressed the particular importance of driving carbon reduction for the country’s pubs and breweries. “Cost-effective, clean energy buying and eliminating waste is going to be key to coming back in a profitable, scalable way,” she stated. “Consistently measuring and reducing carbon emissions across operators is a huge step to ensuring a full recovery.”

The Zero Carbon Forum will make their net zero roadmap publicly accessible to help all hospitality operators transition to a net zero economy.

What you can do next

We partner with our clients on multi year programmes to help them reduce emissions in line with climate science and develop credible offsetting strategies. Carbon Intelligence is proud to have supported 1 in 3 UK approved science-based targets and have our own 1.5◦C approved SBT.

Our services are underpinned by a framework called the 6 dimensions of carbon intelligence that ensures  an integrated approach to setting and implementing credible net zero and ESG targets.

We work with ambitious organisations to build and implement credible net zero strategies. Contact us  if you would like to check if your net zero target strategy will stand up to scrutiny and how it compares to others in your sector. Email info@carbon.ci
